Generally, thermal paper has poor barrier properties against solvents such as alcohol, and it is considered unsuitable because there is a possibility of discoloration of printed areas and discoloration of non-printed areas, but we have developed Thermal label that is resistant to alcohol wiping and alcohol adhesion, etc. The label is available in two types: paper base material and synthetic paper.

■ Technology that made the impossible possible

Although it was previously considered taboo to expose thermal paper to alcohol, this has been made possible thanks to the OSP Group's coating technology (patent pending) that has been developed over many years and the development of a thermal paint that is resistant to alcohol, for which a patent application is currently being considered.

■ Development Background

Due to the global spread of COVID-19, it has become common to use alcohol to disinfect and sterilize our hands and other items that we touch as a means of preventing infection. At the same time, the daily use of alcohol and alcohol gel has led to problems with the erasure of "printed information that should not be erased."

We developed this product in order to provide a safe product that satisfies the hygiene concerns associated with the use of alcohol, and also to prevent problems on retail shelves and in warehouses.

■ Proof of alcohol tolerance

A drop of alcohol was applied to the black part of the existing thermal paper of the OSP Group and this product (paper base material), and then the product was left for one minute, and the performance test was conducted by wiping off the alcohol. (※) Kenei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Disinfectant Ethanol IP (80%)

The concentration of the solid black ink in the center was measured before and after the test, and the remaining rate was calculated to indicate alcohol resistance.
