OSAKA SEALING PRINTING CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Tennoji-ku, Osaka City; President: Matsuguchi Tadashi), a member of the OSP Group, will launch a new environmentally friendly product, "DotTack® Thermal Tape Label," on Friday, March 1, 2024.

This product is a thermal tape label with adhesive applied in dots using a unique technology. It does not use release paper, which reduces waste, and is an environmentally friendly product because it uses a water-based emulsion type adhesive that does not use organic solvents. Just like the existing functional tack paper "Dot Tack®", the adhesive does not lose its adhesive power even if it is repeatedly applied and peeled off, and it sticks firmly and can be peeled off cleanly. The tape base material is thermal paper, and it can be used as both a tape and a label, so it can be used for a variety of purposes such as logistics labels and display labels. The product is manufactured by OSP LABEL STOCK CO.,LTD. (manufacturing and selling tack paper for printing and processed film products), which is part of the OSP Group, the same as Osaka Sealing Printing.

■ Environmental Initiatives

In order to meet the needs of a society that places importance on environmental conservation, the OSP Group is working on developing environmentally friendly products from the perspective of CO2 reduction and SDGs. As a company that operates sticker and label businesses, we have begun developing "DotTac® Thermal Tape Labels" with a focus on the growing logistics field in order to fulfill our social responsibility. There are five points regarding the reduction of environmental impact and environmental consideration in the commercialization of this product.
1. Zero release paper waste
2. Since there is no release paper, the amount of film can be increased, saving transportation and storage space.
3. Tape labels can be peeled off cleanly, making it easy to separate labels after use.
4. Dot technology reduces the amount of adhesive used
5. Uses water-based emulsion type adhesive instead of organic solvent

■ Social development background

The size of the domestic consumer e-commerce market in Japan in 2022 is expected to expand to 22.7 trillion yen (20.7 trillion yen last year, 19.3 trillion yen the year before, an increase of 9.91% from the previous year). In addition, the size of the domestic business-to-business e-commerce market in the same year is on the rise to 420.2 trillion yen (372.7 trillion yen last year, 334.9 trillion yen the year before, an increase of 12.8% from the previous year), and the electronicization of commercial transactions continues to progress. (Source: Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry "Reiwa 4 Market Survey Report on E-Commerce Market Survey Summary"). In proportion to this trend of EC use becoming established, adhesive labels in the logistics field, such as delivery slips, are also showing a stable growth trend.
The label shipment value in 2023 is predicted to be 91.7 billion yen, up 1.1% from the previous year. (Source: Label Newspaper Co., Ltd. "Japan's Label Market 2023" p. 41 Logistics Section). As demand is expected to remain strong in the future, we have begun developing environmentally friendly products.
