OSAKA SEALING PRINTING CO., LTD. is pleased to announce that it has succeeded in developing a printing film called "Media for UV Laser Markers" (patent pending) that utilizes coating and lamination technologies.

This product has a coloring layer that reacts to UV laser irradiation and is located below the film layer (surface layer), so it is resistant to rubbing and water and oil.​ ​It is also hygienic because it does not generate much dust even when irradiated. No ink or printing plate is required, and it colors beautifully even on semi-transparent matte film and rayon paper with uneven surfaces, which have previously been difficult to print on. We will continue to establish a production system in preparation for sales.

■ Development Background

Previous media for UV laser markers had the problem that barcodes and other items could not be read because the color was weak. In addition, there were hygiene issues such as the coating layer peeling off and dust scattering due to sparks that occurred between the film and the coating layer. In order to solve these problems for our customers, we started development in July 2023.

■ Features of the developed product

​This was achieved by taking advantage of the coating technology of "Clear Thermal Film" (see below), which Osaka Sealing Printing launched in 2014, and the lamination technology of soft packaging processing, and optimizing the combination of adhesives, pressure sensitive adhesives and color developers used.
This product has a multi-layer structure, and since there is no color-producing layer on the outermost layer where the UV laser is irradiated, it has the advantage of producing clear printed marks that are resistant to rubbing, water, and oil.
​It can also print beautifully on uneven surfaces such as washi-style rayon and matte film. In addition, since it does not use ink, printing plates, or ink ribbons, there are no consumables that are generated during printing.

■ Problem solving

The clearer print finish will solve barcode reading problems. It can also be used in a wide range of industries, such as food, medical, and precision equipment, where the use of UV laser markers has been difficult due to hygiene concerns caused by dust dispersion. This product improves the quality and hygiene of the print finish, and also makes it possible to use washi paper-like media, expanding its versatility.

Clear thermal film is a packaging material that allows thermal printing on a transparent film.
Feature 1: No ink ribbon is required, so printing is possible as is.
