OSAKA SEALING PRINTING CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Tennoji-ku, Osaka, President: Matsuguchi Tadashi), a member of the OSP Group, is pleased to announce that it will sponsor the label of Kansai University's original craft beer "Kanpai", which was born from the "Sekidai Brew Project" of Kansai University (Senriyama Campus: Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, President: Tomoyuki Takahashi).

Kansai University established the "Kansai University SDGs Partner System" with the aim of promoting the SDGs through industry-government-academia collaboration. As part of our SDGs initiative to consider social issues together with Gen Z students, we registered for the partner system in August 2023. This collaboration is the first step.

■ Original beer born through collaboration between industry, government and academia

In terms of beer brewing, production support from planting the hop seedlings to brewing was provided by Toho Leo Co., Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka City, President: Yoshikawa Minoru), and Osaka Sealing Printing was in charge of the label design and production of 370 labels.

■ Creating labels that express students' thoughts

The label design was created by our company's creators with printing knowledge, based on the plan devised by the students and their feelings about the "Kanbai". The wide open hands represent the work of planting seedlings and picking hops by hand together with their friends, and the hops placed all over the label represent the large harvest. The navy blue base color is a nod to the purple navy blue that is Kansai University's school color, while also highlighting the fresh yellow-green color of hops. As proof that it is an original product of Kansai University, the reed leaves from the school emblem are used as a frame, creating a stylish and modern design.

■What is the Kansai University Brew Project?

This project promotes various initiatives as an opportunity for students to learn about partnerships with companies. This time, students from the Kansai University Expo Club took the lead in planting and harvesting hop seedlings on campus, brewing, selecting flavors and bottles, and coming up with names. Through the process of commercializing beer, they learned about environmental conservation, regional revitalization, and the significance of partnerships with people and companies.

■ Thoughts behind the Seki Cup

The product name "Kanpai" was devised based on the Japanese custom of "kanpai" (cheers), which involves raising a cup of sake to celebrate health, success, etc., with the kanji character "乾" (dried) replaced with the old character "關" (seki) of Kansai University. This year marks the 138th anniversary of the university's founding and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the school colors, so we chose the old character to honor the traditions that have been built up over the years.

■ Label "gimmicks" incorporating students' ideas

The "Kanpai" character on the label is an oval-shaped transparent sticker. It can be enjoyed as a sticker after drinking the beer. In addition, the ribbon-shaped seal sticker that runs from the cap to the bottle contains the students' thoughts about their alma mater and the Osaka-Kansai Expo that will be held in their hometown. There are about 10 different types, and one of the fun parts is guessing which message you will get.
