OSAKA SEALING PRINTING CO., LTD. (Headquarters: Tennoji-ku, Osaka City; President: Matsuguchi Tadashi), a member of the OSP Group, will launch a new label, "Cillpita Thermal," which can be attached to surfaces that become congested, on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

This product is part of the "Cillpita" series of labels that can be attached to surfaces that become covered in condensation due to temperature changes during the production and transportation of frozen or chilled products. Since its release about 10 years ago, this product has been highly acclaimed by our clients, and we have now added Cillpita Chillpita® Thermal," which is compatible with direct thermal printers, to our lineup.
Thermal printing does not require ink ribbons, which offers multiple benefits, including cost savings, reduced plastic use, and improved work efficiency due to less frequent replacement. In addition, by combining durable synthetic thermal paper with an adhesive that can be attached to condensation surfaces, both the front and back can handle water droplets, expanding the range of uses. The product name "Cillpita" was chosen to express the function that allows it to be attached firmly to chilled products.

■Development of adhesive that can be attached to wet surfaces

The impetus for developing "Cillpita" came from a sales representative who had heard a customer's complaint that "when thawing frozen products and selling them as chilled products, condensation that occurs due to temperature changes must be wiped off." Adhesives for stickers and labels do not stick well to wet surfaces, so water droplets have been considered taboo, but we have developed an adhesive that maintains stable adhesion even on wet surfaces. The same is true for the newly released "Cillpita Thermal," where customers who use Thermal label have been having trouble with labels peeling off due to water droplets. We began development because thermal labels, which can be printed with variable information, are frequently used in areas where frozen foods and chilled products are handled.

■ Solving social issues through the development of adhesives

Both products eliminate the need to wipe off water droplets, improving productivity and solving the problem of labels peeling off due to water droplets. OSP has contributed to solving social issues by developing value-added products. The same is true for "Cillpita" and "Cillpita Thermal," and by commercializing stickers and labels that can be attached to surfaces that are covered in condensation, we will contribute to solving customer issues.

■ Contributing to the growing market for frozen and chilled products

Frozen and chilled foods are becoming increasingly popular due to the fact that they eliminate the hassle of cooking, are convenient to eat as is after heating, are individual servings with no waste, and have a good taste. Looking at the trends in the frozen food market, domestic production value is on the rise, reaching 734.3 billion yen in 2021, 763.9 billion yen in 2022, and 779.9 billion yen in 2023. Production volume also increased to approximately 1.58 million tons in 2021 and approximately 1.6 million tons in 2022, but was approximately 1.55 million tons in 2023. With the COVID-19 outbreak now classified as Class 5, the number of cases has temporarily decreased due to the shift in lifestyle from "eating at home" to "eating out." However, the demand for frozen and chilled foods is increasing due to their convenience, and the market is expected to continue to expand. We will contribute to solving issues such as work efficiency and label peeling problems at manufacturing sites in this revitalized industry with OSP's technical capabilities.
