​OSAKA SEALING PRINTING CO., LTD. (headquarters: Tennoji-ku, Osaka City; President: Tadashi Matsuguchi Tadashi), a member of the OSP Group, will begin full-scale operation of a full-color water-based inkjet printing machine for flexible packaging films manufactured by Miyakoshi Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Narashino City, Chiba Prefecture; President: Toru Miyakoshi) from April 2025.

The maximum printing width of this machine is 1,050 mm, but it has 2.3 times the production capacity of a typical water-based inkjet printer, and it can reproduce fine characters and produce a high-quality finish. It was manufactured by Miyakoshi according to Osaka Sealing Printing's original specifications and took about two years to complete. By reducing the environmental impact and improving the work environment, this new machinery and equipment will increase the sustainability of the film business and meet the needs of our customers.

■Reducing environmental impact

Liquid inks are available in water-based and oil-based, with oil-based inks using organic solvents being the mainstream due to their quick drying and beautiful finish. However, the emission of CO₂ and VOCs caused by organic solvents during manufacturing is unavoidable, and the burden on the environment is an issue. From the perspective of the SDGs, the OSP Group is strengthening the development and commercialization of environmentally friendly products, and will actively introduce environmentally friendly printing methods that use water-based inks and reduce organic solvents in manufacturing.

■ Creating a sustainable business model

Reducing the impact of volatile organic compounds on printing machine operators is one of the long-standing challenges in the industry. As part of the solution, the OSP Group is increasing the number of printing machines that use water-based inks, leading to improved working environments and building a more sustainable business model.

■Features of full-color water-based inkjet printer for flexible packaging films

Equipped with zoom function	To improve printing position accuracy, the white enlargement/reduction correction value for color is automatically calculated, and correction is easily performed with the one-step alignment function.
High density white	The dual heads produce a high concentration of whiteness that brings out other colors.
Equipped with high resolution head	With a high image quality of 1200dpi x 1200dpi, text appears clearer and photos appear more colorful.
Non-stop pattern switching	Different jobs can be output continuously, allowing efficient production of a wide variety of small to medium lots.

■Other printing methods lineup (for reference)

Osaka Sealing Printing manufactures film products at its Moji Factory (Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture) and Okayama Factory (Okayama, Okayama Prefecture). In addition to the water-based inkjet printing used in this project, the Moji Factory can also handle inks and printing methods suited to the application, such as digital printing, letterpress printing, and gravure printing. The company will continue to expand its printing presses and strengthen its production system so that it can provide printing methods suited to customers' products.

Digital printing
Since no printing plates are used, there is no need for plate manufacturing costs, and it is possible to produce a wide variety of products in small to medium lots.

It supports large-lot production using conventional printing methods that use printing plates. Since it uses biomass ink, it is possible to display the biomass mark.
