- press release
OSAKA SEALING PRINTING CO., LTD. (Head office: Tennoji-ku, Osaka City; President: Matsuguchi Tadashi), a member of the OSP Group, has collaborated with Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (Location: Iwasaki-cho, Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture; hereafter referred to as NAFS) and designated life care facilities Saffran Seikatsuen and Yona World (both locations: Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya City) to commercialize the "Connectable Pouch" made from fair trade cotton from India through collaboration between industry, academia, and welfare.
This project is part of "Stepping Stone," an industry-academia collaboration project undertaken by Subastra Japan Co., Ltd., which introduces clothing, miscellaneous goods, and other products produced in India to the Japanese market. It aims to raise awareness of fair trade and promote business while balancing academic and business pursuits. Nagoya University of Foreign Studies students were responsible for planning, crowdfunding operations, and sales, while artists from Safran Seikatsuen created the illustrations, Subastra Japan created the products, Osaka Sealing Printing handled the wrapping stickers and cards, and Yona World handled the wrapping, resulting in a product that not only connects industry-academia collaboration but also welfare.

■Student Voices - From the start of the project to deciding on the product proposal
Two years ago, I was disappointed that we were unable to commercialize the product, so this time I participated with the determination to commercialize it, and started with the theme of "a product that many people can use." After coming up with three candidates - a pouch, a sacoche bag, and a drawstring bag - I struggled to decide, so I consulted Osaka Sealing Printing, with whom I had been in contact for some time, and they introduced me to a welfare facility. I heard from someone at the facility that "people with disabilities carry their disability certificates," so I decided on a pouch that could be used to hold the certificates. It was a size that could also be used to store commuter passes and small items, and I also considered convenience by adding a carabiner so that I wouldn't have to search for them in my bag.
■Student Voices: The Importance of Communication
As everything was new to us, we proceeded blindly, and struggled with planning, such as setting our target demographic. It was particularly difficult to get a sense of distance with the people from the companies and welfare facilities. It was also our first time interacting with people with disabilities at welfare facilities, and we were at a loss as to how to communicate with them. We also held back, not knowing how far we should go to assert our opinions. After meeting in person several times, we became acquainted with each other and the "walls in our hearts" began to disappear. This time, we learned not only the difficulty of creating a product, but also the importance of face-to-face communication.
■ Comments from Osaka Sealing Printing
As Osaka Sealing Printing promoted its sustainability activities, we found that our goal coincided with what the students from Nagoya University of Foreign Studies wanted to achieve. Despite facing difficulties in commercializing the product along the way, we were encouraged by the positive attitude and proactive attitude everyone displayed. Thanks to everyone's efforts, the project was a success, and a wonderful product was completed. We are honored to have been involved in this project.
■Design ~Pouch~
The pouch was designed by Shino, an artist at Saffran Living Garden, and features Indian motifs such as an Indian elephant and Ganesha (a Hindu god) to match the Indian cotton.
